Damien Hirst, For the love of god front (white), 2011
Artwork for Sale
For the Love of God Front (White), 2011 is part of Damien Hirst's series based on his iconic diamond skull sculpture. This 2011 print presents a frontal view of Hirst's famous platinum cast of a human skull encrusted with diamonds, set against a stark white background.
The original "For the Love of God" sculpture, created in 2007, featured a platinum cast of a human skull adorned with 8,601 flawless diamonds, including a large pear-shaped pink diamond positioned on the forehead. The sculpture became one of Hirst's most recognizable and controversial works, with a reported production cost of £14 million. "For the Love of God Front (White)" transforms the three-dimensional sculpture into a two-dimensional print that captures the striking visual impact of the original piece.
The white background emphasizes the skull's dramatic form and the glittering surface of the diamonds. This work continues Hirst's career-long exploration of mortality, value, and the relationship between death and beauty. The title itself comes from Hirst's mother's reported reaction when he first told her about his plan to create a diamond-encrusted skull: "For the love of God, what are you going to do next?
