About the work+
Jonas Wood's Untitled (2014) shows an orchid in bloom, its olive-green leaves arcing outward beneath a spray of speckled orange flowers, rising from a pot that carries a black-and-white photograph of a dramatic mountain landscape. The crisp, flat shapes of the plant set against the tonal depth of the photographic scene capture the play between pattern and depth at the heart of Wood's celebrated pot series, where each vessel becomes a picture within the picture.

Wood (b. 1977) is among the most prominent painters working in Los Angeles today, known for his richly patterned interiors, still lifes and plant pictures, which he develops through drawings and collages before translating them into paintings and prints. This lithograph and screenprint was printed and published by Cirrus Editions, Los Angeles, the pioneering West Coast print workshop.
