Salvador Dali, Biological Garden (Imagination & Objects of the Future Portfolio), 1975-1976
Artwork for Sale
This extraordinary lithograph showcases Salvador Dalí's unique fusion of scientific concepts with surrealist imagery during his later career. Created in 1975-76 as part of his "Imagination & Objects of the Future Portfolio," this work presents a fantastical vision where organic and mechanical elements intertwine in defiance of natural laws.
"Biological Garden" depicts a dreamlike landscape populated with twisting, biomorphic shapes that sprout from the ground—some resembling oversized flowers, others suggesting laboratory equipment. A colossal egg, a recurring motif in Dalí's oeuvre, balances precariously atop a slender stalk, symbolizing potential for new life and transformation. The sky transforms into a swirling vortex, merging the earthly plane with a dreamscape, while Dalí's signature melting clocks adorn the structures, underscoring his fascination with the fluidity of time.
This piece reflects Dalí's continued engagement with scientific progress and its implications, inviting viewers to question the boundaries between the natural world and human creation. Rather than presenting a utopian blueprint, Dalí offers a thought-provoking exploration of the fantastical possibilities that might emerge from scientific advancement.
The work comes from the International edition of 250 (from a total edition of 600) and is hand-signed "Dalí" in pencil within the image and numbered by the artist. Its authenticity has been confirmed by Bruce Hochman OS, the leading authority on Salvador Dalí's artwork, and a certificate of authenticity will be included with purchase.
This lithograph has never been framed and remains in excellent condition, offering collectors a pristine example of Dalí's late-period work that continues to captivate with its imaginative vision and technical brilliance.
