About the Work

This etching and aquatint exemplifies Kara Walker's unflinching examination of America's troubled racial history. Created using the sophisticated chine collé technique on ivory wove paper, the work showcases Walker's signature silhouette style that has established her as one of the most important contemporary artists addressing issues of race, gender, and power.
