Damien Hirst, H-10 THE EMPRESSES (Wu Zetian, Nur Jahanj, Theodora, Suiko, and Taytu Betul), 2022
Artwork for Sale
"The Empress" is part of Damien Hirst's H10 The Empresses series created in 2022. This collection features five butterfly compositions, with each work named after historically significant empresses who wielded considerable influence during their reigns.
The works in this series are laminated giclée prints on aluminum composite with screen-printed glitter, giving them a distinctive luminous quality. The compositions display Hirst's signature arrangement of butterfly wings in symmetrical, mandala-like patterns, with "The Empress" specifically showcasing a rich crimson red palette.
HENI Editions published this series in 2022, offering the works as both physical prints and NFTs. The collection represents Hirst's continued exploration of natural specimens transformed into precise artistic arrangements.
The five empresses referenced in the series include Wu Zetian (Tang Dynasty), Theodora (Byzantine Empire), Nūr Jahān (Mughal Empire), Suiko (Japan's first recorded empress), and Taytu Betul (19th century Ethiopia). Each was chosen for her historical significance and impact during her reign.
All works are accompanied by a gallery-issued Certificate of Authenticity and undergo a multi-step authentication review prior to placement.
