Damien Hirst, Deadman's Cove (H13-1), 2023
Artwork for Sale
"Deadman's Cove (H13-1)" forms part of Hirst's 2023 "Where the Land Meets the Sea" collection, reproducing his original "Coast Paintings" work "CP1. Deadman's Cove" from 2019. This vibrant composition exemplifies Hirst's abstract approach to landscape, utilizing spontaneous paint application and layered techniques to convey the tumultuous energy of British shorelines during winter months.
The work originated through an innovative process where canvases initially placed on Hirst's studio floor collected incidental paint marks during his "Cherry Blossoms" series creation, later developing into autonomous compositions. Named after a specific British coastal location, the piece bridges abstraction with geographical reference, creating tension between non-representational mark-making and place identity.
The "Where the Land Meets the Sea" collection represents Hirst's investigation of boundary spaces, combining elements from his "Coast Paintings," "Sea Paintings," and "Seascapes" into a cohesive exploration of liminal natural environments.
All works are accompanied by a gallery-issued Certificate of Authenticity and undergo a multi-step authentication review prior to placement.
