Biography
Marc Chagall left Vitebsk for Paris in 1910 and spent the next seventy-five years painting a world that existed mostly in memory — floating lovers, fiddlers on rooftops, bouquets the size of villages. His lithographs, produced in long collaborations with the Mourlot workshop, carry the same saturated color and dreamlike gravity as the paintings. The prints made his imagery widely accessible and remain some of the most recognized works on paper of the twentieth century.
