Limited Edition Photography

← Back to Art Glossary

Definition: Limited edition photography refers to photographic prints produced in a set quantity, often signed and numbered by the artist. It reflects the same principles as other editioned media, with each image only available in a limited run — sometimes with different sizes or formats as sub-editions.

This structure increases exclusivity and supports the value of photographic works. Galleries, collectors, and museums rely on edition control to protect provenance and pricing. Common edition sizes range from 3 to 50 prints per image, though some photographers issue even smaller runs.
