"I'm interested in the way we consume imagery, the way we consume luxury, and the way we construct our identities through what we consume."
Chloe Wise (b. 1990, Montreal, Canada) is a contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, video, and installation, exploring the intersection of consumer culture, identity, and desire with satirical precision. After graduating from Concordia University in Montreal, Wise quickly established herself with her "Bread Bags" series — meticulously crafted sculptures resembling luxury handbags made from urethane-coated bread and pastries that wittily critique the fetishization of consumer goods.
Wise's work is characterized by her hyperrealistic oil painting technique, which she employs to create portraits and still lifes that reference both art historical traditions and contemporary advertising aesthetics. Her paintings, often featuring friends and fellow artists in carefully staged compositions with branded products, examine how identity is constructed through consumption and social performance.
